Wood-fired stoneware jug II – Malcolm Turner

Material ceramic

Measurements 16.5cm high x 11cm diameter at lip

Malcolm Turner is a potter based in the Welsh Borders. He has been building kilns and making ceramics for over 40 years and works primarily from his woodland studio, using a self-built kiln and a wood-firing process fuelled by timber sourced from the surrounding landscape. He works on the wheel and hand-builds his more conceptual pieces.

This jug was made on the wheel as part of a small run and fired in Turner’s woodland kiln. The form is functional and restrained, with a softly articulated handle, poured lip and subtle banding in the glaze that reflects the conditions of the wood firing.
