This contemporary two-bedroom apartment sits on the third floor of a landmark building in the Dalston conservation area.
Spruce Apartments is a slender, brick-clad timber apartment building gracefully slotted into Barrett’s Grove, an archetypal Victorian Street on the edge of Dalston and Stoke Newington. Designed by renowned architect Amin Taha, and shortlisted for the 2017 RIBA Stirling Prize, the building has featured extensively in the architectural press, including Dezeen, Architects Journal and Dwell. Rarely available to the rental market, this two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment forms one of just six residential dwellings within the development.
On entering, the structure of cross-laminated timber is visibly exposed on floors, walls and ceilings. A communal hallway and stairs ascend to the apartment on the third floor.
Opening onto a wide hallway, the warm timber continues and envelopes the interior, creating a tactile domestic aesthetic. The main living space spans the width of the building with the kitchen lying discreetly along one wall, incorporating built-in Smeg appliances, fridge freezer, oven and Gorenje induction hob. The custom kitchen comes complete with twin Fisher & Paykel dishwashers, and worktops of white Corian.
A floor to ceiling window punctures the front aspect, bathing the room in natural light, while just off the living space sits a wicker-covered balcony projecting from the front façade, providing private outdoor space with far-reaching views. The sense of space is heightened with floor-to-ceiling doors which disappear when open and custom space-maximising cabinetry can be found in every room.
The primary bedroom sits at the end of the spacious hallway, quietly tucked to the rear of the plan and complete with a large en-suite and built-in wardrobes. There is a second and equally well-proportioned bedroom with views over neighbouring gardens.
Barrett’s Grove is neatly tucked off Stoke Newington Road, well placed to access the independent shops and restaurants of Newington Green, Dalston and Stoke Newington. Some of our favourites include Jolene, Rubedo and The Good Egg.
Overground services can be easily accessed from Dalston Kingsland and Dalston Junction stations, while Rectory Road provides links to Liverpool Street in under 15 minutes.
